Day 1 - A Picture Of The City You Were Born In

Santa Monica, California.

Pretty much always been a SoCal kid. I was going through other pictures and found ones I liked with palm trees in it, but I guess this one just stood out to me more. I love sunsets and one day, I’m going to watch one with someone special.

But that’s a story for another day, haha.

Day 2 - A Recent Picture of You and Why You Picked It

Santa Barbara, CA on November 12

So I’ve been lagging on this because I couldn’t decide what exactly “recent” meant, but I decided to just settle on this one. The weekend was just fun in general and it was a good learning experience as well.

Yep, I learned that I can only handle about three shots of 99 Bananas before knocking out in the back seat of my car.

Day 3 - Your Favorite Animal, Food, Color and Youtube Video

Favorite Animal:

I used to like lions (and general wildcats) and kangaroos (and general Australian animals), but right now, I am in a red panda phase. Isn’t it incredibly adorable? :]

Favorite Food: I really like salmon, McDonald’s french fries, KBBQ, sushi, and dinosaur chicken nuggets.

Favorite Color: Green! Followed by blue, purple, and orange.

Favorite YouTube Video: I’m not sure if it’s exactly my favorite, but it’s one of the best things ever in this world. Richard Simmons on Whose Line.

Title: Two Is Better Than One Artist: Boys Like Girls (Feat. Taylor Swift) 10 plays

Day 4 - A Song You Want Played At Your Wedding

Two is Better than One - Boys Like Girls (Featuring Taylor Swift)

I remember what you wore on the first day
You came into my life and I thought “Hey,
You know, this could be something”
‘Cause everything you do and words you say
You know that it all takes my breath away
And now I’m left with nothing

So maybe it’s true
That I can’t live without you
And maybe two is better than one
But there’s so much time
To figure out the rest of my life
And you’ve already got me coming undone
And I’m thinking two is better than one

I remember every look upon your face
The way you roll your eyes
The way you taste
You make it hard for breathing
‘Cause when I close my eyes and drift away
I think of you and everything’s okay
I’m finally now believing

That maybe it’s true
That I can’t live without you
And maybe two is better than one
But there’s so much time
To figure out the rest of my life
And you’ve already got me coming undone
And I’m thinking two is better than one

I remember what you wore on the first day
You came into my life and I thought, “Hey.”

Maybe it’s true
That I can’t live without you
Maybe two is better than one
But there’s so much time
To figure out the rest of my life
And you’ve already got me coming undone

And I’m thinking I can’t live without you
‘Cause, baby, two is better than one
But there’s so much time
To figure out the rest of my life
But I’ll figure it out
When all is said and done
Two is better than one
Two is better than one

Day 5 - Five Things That You Want To Do Within The Next Five Years

1. Travel around East and Southeast Asia

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to go on adventures in other countries. Top ones that I want to explore right now are the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. Even if I get to go to one of those within the next five years, then that would be amazing.

2. Learn how to play guitar/ukelele

I’ve wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument for a while now, but I never got around to it, so hopefully I can commit myself to learning.

3. Spend part of winter in New York City

I want to see streets and buildings decked out in snow and Christmas cheer. I want to go ice skating and playing around in FAO Schwartz, and I want to share this experience with someone special, haha.

4. Feel more confident in who I am and who I want to be

These are the prime years to “find yourself”, right? I try to work toward the end goal of being fully happy with life, but that requires a lot of reflection in terms of being comfortable being me and knowing what my purpose is and where my place is in this world. Everyone wants to answer the question “What am I doing with my life?” and I think that this is a time when most of us finally figure it out.

5. Fall in love

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. Cheesiness aside, let’s be real. Life is more fun when there’s a specific someone who makes you feel like you can do anything when they are around. One day. <3

This is why alchemy exists,” the boy said. “So that everyone will search for his treasure, find it, and then want to be better than he was in his former life. Lead will play its role until the world has no further need for lead; and then lead will have to turn itself into gold. That’s what alchemists do. They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.

Day 6 - Your Favorite Quote Or A Passage From A Book That Has Touched You

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I posted this up on tumblr before, when I first read the book, but I think it’s worthy of putting up again. I love inspirational adventure novels like The Alchemist and Life of Pi. Someday, I’m going to write similar stories too, though you’ll find mine in nonfiction.

Live a life worth writing about. :]

Day 7 - Your Zodiac Sign, Description, and Horoscope For The Day

Virgo (August 23 to September 22)

With an acute attention to detail, the Virgo is the sign in the zodiac most dedicated to serving. Their deep sense of the humane leads them to caregiving like no other, while their methodical approach to life ensures that nothing is missed. The Virgo is often gentle and delicate, preferring to step back and analyze before moving ahead.

Strengths: Practical, loyal, hardworking, analytical, kind.
Weaknesses: Worry, shyness, overly critical of self and others, all work and no play.
Charismatic marks: A certain, reserved manner marks the classic Virgo. Virgos are generally medium to slight in build.
Likes: Cleanliness, animals, healthy foods, books, nature.
Dislikes: Taking center stage, rudeness, asking for help.
Best environment: Virgo is most at home in the company of animals and close to nature. Virgo likes power and enjoys being the sidekick or indispensable assistant.

Virgo in Love:

It’s important for the Virgo lover to feel needed by their mates. Outside of the bedroom is where the majority of foreplay is going to happen for this sign. Tactile, methodical and willing to take as long as is needed, they make excellent lovers. Even though the Virgo won’t express many words of love, they will show their affections in the bedroom. Virgos prefer to have a few strong connections rather than many partners. Life partners are chosen based on how important and needed the Virgo feels they are in their lives. They are dedicated spouses that love to live on the wild side once and a while.

Friends and Family:

A Virgo is a helpful friend to have indeed. They are excellent at giving advice, and they really know how to problem solve. You’ll find that a Virgo will remind you to take good care of yourself, as health is a focal point for them. Loving and dedicated to family, the Virgo is also first on the scene when care is needed. When someone reaches old age or is ill, the Virgo will be there doing all that is needed. The Virgo is not known for showing their feelings. They would prefer to show through deed than by word.

Career and Money:

“I analyze” is the key phrase for the Virgo personality, while “practicality” is the keyword. Industrious, discriminating, and scientific by nature, the Virgo really knows how to get to the heart of the matter. They are exceptionally methodical and do well in jobs that require organization. If there’s anything out of order, set a Virgo to the task! When focused on a task, the Virgo will push themselves to perfection, leaving no stone unturned. They are exacting and take great pride in a job done to the absolute best of their ability. When they feel their talent falls short, they’ll turn to the books to learn whatever they need to improve.

Horoscope for December 7, 2010

Maintain a positive attitude, Virgo, and things will naturally flow your way. Tell a few jokes and keep things light and energetic. You will find that you can multitask very well and you have the ability to make everyone smile. Don’t shy away from things - move toward them. Put away your self-doubt and be more proactive in your approach to everything you encounter.

For the most part, spot on.

Day 8 - Picture Of The Last Place You Visited And A Place You’ve Never Visited but Want To

Seattle, Washington.

As much as I want to put up a picture from my Shanghai trip, I decided to go with Seattle since Day 9 is probably gonna feature a bunch of pics from China anyway. Anyway, I love this city! It was my second time there and I still want to go back and explore. Road trip to Washington, anyone?

As far as where I want to visit…

Yeosu, South Korea

This is concept art for one of the pavilions for the next World Expo in 2012. I really want to be there for it, because I really enjoyed the pavilions in the Shanghai World Expo this past summer. The theme is “The Living Ocean and Coast” which is really interesting! I should start saving up now…

Day 9 - Ten Photos You Took

Because I’m going through Shanghai withdrawals, all these pics I chose are from my adventure over the summer. As you can see, I really love lights. If you want to see more, go through the blog I made to keep track of these memories: oshanghaithere.tumblr.com. You can click on the titles before each picture to go to the post it was about and learn more about what exactly is going on.

1. Jinmao Tower and the World Financial Center

2. Rampage at the subway

3. Water Cube in Beijing

4. Back-alley on the way to get tailored clothes

5. China Pavilion at the World Expo

6. Confucius Temple wish card

7. Art in the Shanghai Art Museum

8. Train ride from Beijing to Shanghai

9. LIGHTS! on Nanjing Road

10. Pudong

Day 10 - A Silly Picture of You

It was hard to decide so I included three additional silly pics with my cousin, Angelica.

Day 11 - Something That You Crave A Lot

I love french fries, but I particularly love McDonald’s french fries. I can suck those up like a vacuum. It’s so addicting. I probably have had better fries before, but these are so cheap and so convenient. Mm, I’m starting to get hungryyy.

Day 12 - Favorite Word, A Question About The World, and The Most Interesting Fact You’ve Learned This Week

Favorite Word:

Ridiculous? Okay, I don’t know if it’s my favorite word, but I have been using it a lot lately. There are probably words that I like better, but I don’t really want to try and remember what they are. “Facetious” is a fun word, because it has all the vowels in alphabetical order, but I don’t use it at all in conversation.

Question about the World:

How does memory work and why do we remember certain moments of our lives and forget others? Memory is just an interesting in general. For me, it’s easier to remember times when I have felt embarrassed rather than times I’ve felt proud and it’ll come up at random times too. Ahh, that needs to change.

Most Interesting Fact I’ve Learned this Week:

The shoulder straps on my shirt are called epaulettes! I really don’t remember all the facts I learned in the past week, but this was something new to me.

UPDATE: New interesting fact. Volkswagen means “people’s car” in German. It’s the folks’ wagon! Wowowow.

Day 13 - A List of All The Places You’ve Lived

Los Angeles, CA - Starting out a little after I was born in Santa Monica.
Santa Clarita, CA  - From a little after my first brother was born until the end of second grade.
Van Nuys, CA - From the beginning of third grade until now!

And if you also want to include…
Westwood, CA - Dorming my first two years at UCLA and living in the apartments my third year
Shanghai, China - Studying abroad for six weeks

Who knows what will be added in the future? The whole world will be my home.

Day 14 - Your Day In Great Detail

I woke up around 9:30 AM, but figured that was still too early for me to really be up. I had a weird dream and I wanted to go back to sleep to see if I could build on to the story, but I totally forgot what it was all about now. After going back to sleep, I woke up at 10:30 AM and decided that I would check up what’s going on at my usual sites — tumblr, Facebook, and gmail.

Afterwards, I decided to get ready for my day. I showered, changed, and went back online in my living room, this time to leave a video message reply to my pseuds, Leanna. My webcam wasn’t working for a while, but I figured out it had something to do with me being on Chrome, so I switched to Safari. It worked and I left a message.

I went back to my room, where my phone was and realized that Rona called me. We were supposed to meet up at her house to bake a cake and get ready for Harold’s birthday. I drove over to her house and got there around 12:30 PM. I started to get the cake ready while Rona cleaned, and then we set up decorations while the cake was in the oven. The party was supposed to be Peruvian themed, but we ended up changing it to Princess because we love making fun of Harold.

We put up pink rock star banners and set up the “Pin the Tiara on the Princess” game and then decided to try and test out the drinks we got from BevMo. We did a lemon shot, which was alright, but you could taste the alcohol, so we knew Harold wouldn’t like it. I got my mango margarita mix and blended it with ice and Tampico Mango Punch and it was awesome.

Anam and Isabel arrived and we finished the cake by putting on the red icing and sticking in the decorations. They were candles that spelled out “QUENCENEARA” and a figurine of Posh Spice, but we decided to add one of Rona’s Hannukah candles as a stripper pole. We put it in the fridge so Harold wouldn’t see, and then we cleaned up.

Liz came and then soon after, Saba, Evelyn, and Daniel came as Anam went to pick up Harold, who got lost on the way to Rona’s house. We were unprepared when Anam and Harold came in, but he knew it wasn’t a surprise anyway. We decided to start playing “Pin the Tiara on the Princess” first.

Harold was the first and then we each took turns. I ended up getting the closest, though everyone thought I cheated, WHICH I DID NOT! Elena came by during the middle of the game with pizza. Afterwards, Harold opened his presents and then Rona set up her Wii and we played Just Dance 2. It was my first time ever playing that, but I won my first game, dancing to Firework by Katy Perry. It was a lot of fun.

For a good chunk of time, we just took turns playing. There were four controllers so we had fun. Chris also came in while we were playing so he joined in. We got tired, so we decided to bring out the birthday cake. Harold got led outside and blindfolded, and we struggled to light the cake, but the candles started melting away. We finally got them all lit and brought Harold inside to blow it out. He got so confused looking at the cake. Mission accomplished.

Harold cut the cake pretty well actually and we each had a slice. It turned out to be pretty good for being made from stuff gotten at the 99 Cents store. We decided to play Name Five, a game Harold got as a present. We tried doing it by the rules but decided to just play it our own way which was more fun. Evelyn and Daniel ended up having to leave, so we stopped playing and Rona put on the DVD for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

The movie was good and most people decided to leave after it. We took a group picture before people departed and it ended up being just me, Rona, and Harold since Harold was waiting for his mom to pick him up. We played Just Dance again until Harold’s mom called to get him. I left as well and ended up back home where I did some more website browsing. I eventually decided to upload the pictures and create an album for them on Facebook.

Completing that, I decided to finally tackle this portion of the 31 Day Challenge because I knew it would take a while. Finally done and probably gonna stay online for a while.

That was my day. Sorta reminds me of when I had a Xanga.
