[The Lights and Buzz by Jack’s Mannequin]
It’s Christmas in California,
And it’s hard to ignore that it feels like summer all the time.
But I’ll take a west coast winter to remove my splinters.
It’s good to be alive.
Day 1 - A Picture Of The City You Were Born In
Santa Monica, California.
For a while, I tried to avoid using a picture of the pier because I felt that was too cliché, but I realized that that is a big part of what Santa Monica means to me. I’m seeing now that I really haven’t explored what else goes on in Santa Monica outside of the pier and Third Street Promenade and I think I should do the city some justice within the next year and see what else it has to offer.
I have a couple fond memories from the Santa Monica Pier. I used to go here sometimes with my dad and brothers to see if there were any catches. My brother and I (before my other brother was born) got our names written out by those street painters and they are still hanging in my room. No matter whether it’s night or day, I really like the chill, laid back atmosphere there, that tends to resonate with a lot of people in Southern California.
Since the place I was born, the place I live now, and the place I went to college are all less than an hour away from each other, I haven’t really left the region (other than various trips) so I’ve played it relatively safe. I do love SoCal very much, though I know that I can’t always stay here forever. My wanderlust is too strong. Still, it will always have this special place inside me and I don’t think I’ll ever let that go.

Just a heads up that the 2011 LA County Fair starts tomorrow and runs until the first weekend of October! Adult admission is $12 on weekdays and $17 on weekends, but there’s also all kinds of promotions running throughout the month such as UCLA Day on September 24 where UCLA students, faculty, and staff get in for free! Also, if you are thinking about going on opening weekend, admission is only $1!

Haven’t gone to this since my first year of college. It’s really fun though so I really want to go back. Also, check out my other blog if you want to keep up to date with other cool things coming up in the future and learn about things to see and do around the world (but mostly, for now, in Shanghai and the LA area)!
